In May 2025, we visited two coal fire-affected sites in Hungary to investigate mineral assemblages of highly uncommon composition. The first site, near the town of Salgótarján, features pyrometamorphic formations resulting from past coal fires. The second site, near Pécs, is still experiencing active coal combustion. Studying the mineral phases in these environments offers important insights into mineral alteration processes and the potential mobilization of hazardous elements during coal burning.
